OLSSON, Monica Edith:
Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 17th, 2025 at Parkwood Lodge, Waikanae, in her 103rd year. Dearly loved wife of the late Bert. Loved mother and mother-in-law of Waveney and Malcolm Bowman, Derek and Judy Olsson and Janet and David Miller. Beloved Grandma of Gail, Sally, Hamish, Erinna, Sonja, Katee, Sarah and Clare. Loved by her great-grandchildren Barzeli, Ronan, Aowyn, Riley, Liam, Alex, Riley, Theo, Aria and Nova. A service to celebrate Monica’s life will be held at Kapiti Uniting Church, 9 Taiata Street, Waikanae Beach, on Tuesday, October 7th at 1:30pm.

I’m very sorry I couldn’t make it to the funeral today. I have lots of memories of Monica and Bert from the Devonport Methodist Church during my childhood and youth. More recently, late in my mother’s life (perhaps 20 years ago) they invited us to their new home in I think Pekapeka for afternoon tea. What a great age Monica reached! My thoughts are with the family.
I’m sorry I was unable to get to Monica’s farewell yesterday. I have been a friend of both Monica and Bert for many years. My husband Jack, and I enjoyed hospitality on their lifestyle block as well as enjoying their company in later times in their villa. We had much in common with shared Methodist heritage. Bert was savvy in political isuues re church matters and we often were in strong agreement with his views. Monica was always a pleasure to be with a truly gracious lady. She has touched many hearts and will not be forgotten.
