Our families’ connections with the Butcher family over past generations have always been much valued.
Thank you for your kind words, your support means a lot to the family.
Very sorry to hear of Terrys passing and would like to pass on our condolences to Wendy and the family. I met Terry through Wellington carrier Merv Paull who worked closely over the years with Terrys dad Don as they use to look out for one anothers cargo that could be stacked anywhere within the various cargo sheds on the Wellington wharves. Years later I was lucky enough to work for DW Butcher & Co at ICI in Seaview and I still remember having the job interview with Terry in a small office that he used upstairs inside one of the chemical plants onsite. Those years were some of my best working memories ever with Terry and 6 other drivers. Good equipment with a great variety of work made DWB one of the top driving jobs to have in Wellington and I felt privileged to have worked for Terry during that era. Terry was very innovative and took part in all the initial testing with the DSIR for the proposed vehicle weight increase from 39 to 44 Tonne. Many years later, my wife and I were able to catch up with Terry and met Wendy for the first time at a Volvo function in Invercargill. As drivers, we all lucky to learn things from our employers and I have certainly used the skills – advice and the way that Terry went about things in my later years when we bought our first truck and we often reflect on this. Terry was a real gentleman and will be missed.
Kind regards
